2013 National Stationery Show – Grins ‘n Giggles
Don’t ya love when you’re in a stationery shop, wending your way through all of the card and book options, and you pick something up, and it makes you smile or chuckle or crack up? Yeah, me too.
Well, the good news is, there was plenty of humor at the show this year: some of it, silly; a lot of it, naughty; and all of it, funny. These represent just a tiny tip of the hilarious iceberg:
This card from Ten Four Paper was one of the very first to catch my eye at the show. I literally stopped mid-stride to check it out. (My husband and I bought a house recently, so it resonated.) The rest of Ten Four’s designs are equally funny.
Fresh Frances’s retro-style birthday cards are fun and funny all on their own, but the juxtaposition of these two really cracked me up.
Sometimes, the best time to get a funny card is when you’re feeling blue. This card from L2 Design Collective could be just the thing for someone down in the dumps.
Potter Style’s hilarious The Guide to Baby Sleep Positions, by Andy Herald and Charlie Capen, and New Baby Sanity Checks, by Kelly and David Sopp, make the perfect gifts for any sleep-deprived new parents in your life.
I’m a sucker for this card from Benjamin Paul Letterpress. (I spent a semester abroad in London many years ago, and still use this phrase on a regular basis.) I especially loved finding this in Benjamin Paul’s booth. Their style is lovely and lyrical and elegant, which made this shout of frustration even more fun and unexpected.
To all of my outrageous friends: please get hitched or renew your vows or something, simply so I can give you this card from Sugarcube Press.
I’m tempted to buy this Moglea card for my husband to give to me next Valentine’s Day. (It would be so right on so many levels, but especially since he puts up with the boxes upon boxes of stationery and greeting cards I have tucked here and there.)
Hopefully, these have put a smile on your face. And, I plan to keep you smiling with upcoming posts on cool kids’ products and beautiful type and lettering. Stay tuned!
