A Change of Pace – Back to School – Part 1 – Retro Geometric

Yes, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here on the S’Wicked Blog. All sorts of good stuff has been happening for friends, family, and myself over the last couple of months.

One of those good things is my decision to participate in the Make It In Design (MIID) Summer School program, where I hope to learn all sorts of nifty new things, see all the beautiful and clever solutions my fellow students come up with, and, in general, have a good brain stir.

Ambitious thing that I am, I signed up for all three tracks—from beginner through advanced—and will be sharing my progress on all three tracks, here. I can’t give a lot of details behind the designs; that’s MIID’s territory. But, I’m happy to share the work I’ve created, and, in some cases, the process that lead up to it.

First, up, Intermediate Track, Brief 1…

(Yes, I know it would be logical to have begun with the Beginner Track, but so it goes.)

The palette, and the form, to a degree, were inspired by my grandparents’ kitchen wallpaper.

Unlike the other two tracks, the Intermediate project went from sketchbook to screen very quickly. There isn’t a whole lot of process to show on this one, so I’ll just get right down to it and share the final pattern swatch and mock-up.

What fun this is! My noggin is so happy to be working on new visual challenges.

I’ll be updating as I can, so stay tuned!
